Web Presence Initiative

Before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) began a new Web presence initiative that would include a content management system, InfoZen developed a set of comprehensive pre-implementation recommendations addressing content management for CFTC's external Web presence and its intranet.

CFTC is an independent agency with the mandate to regulate commodity futures and option markets in the United States . The mission of CFTC is to protect market users and the public from fraud, manipulation, and abusive practices related to the sale of commodity and financial futures and options, and to foster open, competitive, and financially sound futures and option markets.

InfoZen's services focused on educating and recommending how the agency should proceed forward towards a content management system for both its external site (www.cftc.gov) and its intranet. This project was particular challenging on two fronts. The first challenge was to develop a Web content governance framework that would work for the agency as it redesigned its external website. Secondly, CFTC sought an organization-wide taxonomy that would cover Web content for both its internal and external presences.

InfoZen Expertise

InfoZen utilized numerous interviews, elicitation methods, and work sessions with individuals, offices and divisions from the top to the bottom of the organization to create a complete picture of the roles, responsibilities, content and technologies involved with content creation and management. InfoZen delivered a set of recommendations consisting of a Web content governance framework, process workflows, taxonomy and metadata schema, and technology-agnostic high-level requirements.

Results

Currently, CFTC is moving forward with additional pre-implementation tasks for a content management system as well as the beginning steps of its Web presence initiative. CFTC is well on its way to completing its goal of launching a fully redesigned website supported by a robust, enterprise-level content management system by June 2006.
